Auto Racing Nearly as Popular as Football with RV Enthusiasts
Edmonds, WA (PRWeb) January 25, 2007 -- As America gets ready for its annual Superbowl weekend, RV enthusiasts may be thinking instead about the next big auto race.
According to a January, 2007 survey of more than 1,000 recreational vehicle owners by the website RVtravel.com (http://www.rvtravel.com), auto racing runs a close second to football as their favorite spectator sport.
"Twenty-nine percent of our readers said football was their favorite spectator sport, but only four percent less -- 25 percent -- put auto racing at the top of their list," said RVtravel.com editor Chuck Woodbury.
"The fact that so many RVers are so passionate about auto racing should be no surprise to anyone who has attended a NASCAR event," he said. "RVs of every size and shape are packed like sardines in the infield campgrounds of race tracks and in other nearby camping areas. NASCAR has invested a lot of money in the RV community by building RV parks and hosting special events for RV enthusiasts. RV manufacturers are well aware of the popularity of the sport among RVers and have even sponsored race cars."
Only 11 percent of RVers who responded to the RVtravel.com survey put baseball at the top of their favorite sports list. "I was surprised at the low interest in baseball, but even more surprised at only five percent named basketball as their favorite sport, said Woodbury. "They like hockey even better than basketball. Seven percent chose it as their favorite sport."
